Navy Sonar Testing Range (NC)

How Right Whales Travel

The following map tracks four right whales' travel patterns to show their proximity to the proposed Naval testing site (displayed in the box). The Navy has said that when right whales travel along the Carolina coastline, they do so at least five miles away from the shoreline, and thus, out of range of potential harm from the proposed sonar testing. However, these maps, compiled from documented whale sitings, show that the whales travel much closer to shore and at close proximity to the proposed sonar testing range - well within range of "acoustic disturbance."
